As the Tevez saga drags on, and interesting side story has been churned up. AC Milan youngster Alexander Merkel may be moving in the opposite direction.
Respected Italian paper Tuttosport understands that Man City have sent scouts to watch the 19 year old play for Genoa, by whom he is co-owned. Milan have seized upon this interest to try to smooth through the protracted Tevez transfer.
However the German youth international is still very much an unknown quantity, and has only played around 20 league games since signing for Milan in 2009.
Despite City’s interest it may be wishful for Milan to think that Merkel can sway the Tevez issue. City have shown they are in no rush to completed Tevez’s deal, and it must be questioned whether Merkel is a big enough name to get them to change their minds.
City may have to decide soon, with Werder Bremen and Schalke confirming their interest in the player.
