Manchester City’s name has cropped up again in the Football Transfer Tavern, but this time it’s not positive news according to our sources at talkSPORT.
It appears Roberto Mancini is set to miss out on one of his top targets again, with the news that Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi will not be sold in January.
Roma president James Palotta has revealed their star midfielder will not be sold under any circumstances, in a bid to scare off any potential bids from Manchester City or Paris St Germain.
He told Corriere dello Sport: “We have absolutely no intention of selling De Rossi. We have not had any contact from anyone and we have not received any offers. It is just speculation.”
De Rossi only signed a five-year contract extension in February – a deal that made him the best paid player in Italian football. But failure to qualify for Champions League football with Roma would probably persuade him to seek a move in the summer.
Palotta is confident that will not happen.
“We definitely intend to qualify for the Champions League,” he added. “If we don’t, we will be extremely unhappy,” he said.
