It seems the powers that be at Manchester City were focused on more than beating their arch-rivals Manchester United this weekend. Reports coming out of Italy claim that the clubs recruitment drive is continuing apace.
Our friends at Tribal Football this afternoon bring us quotes from Sky Sport Italia to whom a representative of Bolgna midfielder Gaston Ramirez has been blabbing.
The 20 year old, who was born in Fray Bentos (yes, that’s a real place, not just a pie maker), Uruguay, has greatly impressed during his first season in European football and he has attracted attention from clubs around Europe. The attacking midfielder has made 19 appearances for the Serie A side this season and managed to score 3 goals.
His representative, Vincenzo D’Ippolito, has blabbed pretty much everything about a potential Summer move, naming not only country, but also stating that it is Manchester City that have made a formal approach for the player:
“It’s a concrete offer from Manchester City for him….I don’t know what amount but Bologna, for now, said no….These are the first signs, we’ll see what happens. Bologna want at least €20million (£17.5m) for him.”.
Whilst the bid may have been rejected, it might be a sign of things to come. The openness of the quote would suggest that although Bologna are not overly keen on selling, they might be ready to do so at the right price. It would seem realistic that it would take a bid of closer to £20million to secure the impressive midfielder.
Whether Roberto Mancini returns for the player remains to be seen, in terms of competition there has been the suggestion that Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the 20 year old. There is still a lot of doubt however whether the player would even want to move, speaking to Zerocinquantuno.com a couple of months ago he said:
“I am solely thinking about Bologna…I would like to stay here….I would like to remain here for a long time.”.
Whether his head has been turned over the past couple of months remains to be seen. Something doesn’t really add up, if the player was entirely happy at his current club, it seems doubtful that the quotes from his representative would be so open and suggestive of a move.
This might definitely be one to keep watching, Manchester City seem keen to start their Summer spending spree and I am sure they have made enquiries about countless players many of which wont come off. The chances are that there is nothing in this, but should a bid be placed this Summer I am sure that he would be a fine addition to the squad.
