The Spanish media are reporting a potential transfer tug of war between Real Madrid and Liverpool; but it’s not Fernando Torres at the centre of it all, it’s not Glen Johnson, it’s not even Karim Benzema.
The frenzy surrounds Manchester City’s want away striker, Emmanuel Adebayor.
Granted, both managers are thought to be in the hunt for different reasons; Roy Hodgson is keen to provide star striker Torres with a suitable strike partner, while Jose Mourinho is in the market to find a replacement for Karim Benzema, who it seems hasn’t managed to do enough to keep himself in his manager’s plans.
As fichajes.com quite succinctly puts it, it’s a case of necessity for Hodgson and personal preference for Mourinho!
As for Adebayor, his preferred destination remains unclear, although having been linked with a move to practically every club under the sun, he could be forgiven for feeling a little confused.
His current transfer value is around £16m, although that could of course rise considerably if Liverpool and Real were that keen to sign the striker.
I personally don’t see Jose spending that sort of money (or any amount, come to that) on a disruptive player like Adebayor, but unfortunately for the Anfield faithful, Hodgson isn’t quite as shrewd.
Of course, if today’s reports are to be believed, West Ham could still throw their hat into the ring and scupper both clubs’ chances of signing him anyway…
