Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is keen to make some signings this month as the Saints look to beat the drop.
And one name the former RB Leipzig manager is said to be eyeing up is Leeds United’s Jack Clarke, who has really made an impression in the Championship this season.
According to the Daily Mirror, Southampton, among other Premier League outfits, are hoping to sign Clarke in what could be a shrewd bit of business.
Leeds are adamant that the 18-year-old is going nowhere, but he is exactly the sort of player Southampton need right now.
Out wide, the Saints are not the strongest, especially with summer signing Mohamed Elyounoussi failing to make much of an impact since joining the club from Basel.
With that in mind, moving for Clarke, who has been tearing it up on the flank in recent weeks, makes a lot of sense.
Hasenhuttl could do with Clarke’s pace and crossing to complement the rejuvenated Nathan Redmond on the opposite side to the ex-Norwich City man.
Ultimately, after some very lacklustre transfer windows, the signing of Clarke is one that could have shades of the successful additions the Saints had made by using their black box data approach. The Leeds youth product looks the real deal.
