The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their club can make at least one deadline day signing to boost their hopes of survival this season.
West Ham made another step towards Premier League survival last night as they drew 1-1 with their fellow relegation rivals Crystal Palace at the London Stadium. The result means The Irons now sit 4 points clear of safety after 25 fixtures, although the bottom-three clubs all have a game in hand.
David Moyes opted to hand a debut to West Ham’s only signing of the window last night, namely Joao Mario, but the supporters are hoping that their club’s hierarchy will bring another talented player to the club during the course of the day.
One player who the supporters have identified as a potentially positive signing is Leicester City’s Islam Slimani, and according to reports in The Sun, a £20 million deal could be on the cards, although Sky Sports claim that Newcastle United have agreed a loan deal for Slimani.
Slimani (valued at £19.8 million by Transfermarkt) has fallen out of favour under Claude Puel this season, as Jamie Vardy, Shinji Okazaki and Kelechi Iheanacho appear to be firmly above the 29-year-old in Leicester’s pecking order.
However, due to West Ham’s lack of potency in front of goal this season, the supporters believe that he could become a valuable addition to the first-team squad if they are able to hijack Newcastle’s bid to sign him on loan.
Here’s what The Hammers on Twitter have had to say about the potential of signing Slimani before the January deadline passes tonight…
He's struggled with us because everything revolves around Vardy, make him your main striker and he'll score you goals!

He will do well. Great goals to minutes ratio. Never given the chance here.

Decent striker, be surprised if they let him go after loaning Musa & Ulloa, however, but hopefully, DG was a fan of him before Leicester got him.

He’d fit right in. Athletic, pacey, aggressive, and a competitor.
