Clear out begins as Newcastle cut ties with flop midfield duo, Benitez already shaking things up


Though doubts remain as to whether they will remain in the league and keep a hold of their manager, our Newcastle supporting punters are cheering about the recent Rafa resurgence.

Excitement has grown after a good run of form kept their survival hopes alive, with many lauding the impact the Spanish tactician has had on Tyneside.

Whether or not he sticks around long, the Toon Army in tonight have been driven positively barmy following the news (sourced from BBC Sport) the former Liverpool and Chelsea coach has released flop pair Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux.

Neither have had much of an impact for the Magpies, the latter particularly struggling to convince under the four managers he played under during his stint.

Obertan was a £3m arrival from Manchester United in 2011, and though he started the season in the side under Steve McClaren, lost his place due to injury and never threatened to recover it.

It’s unclear what calibre of players will joining the Frenchmen in leaving St. James’ Park, but the clear out after a miserable few years is surely now under way.
