It is hard to pinpoint at which point people will start to like Bolton, the general consensus was that with the sacking of Gary Megson and appointment of Owen Coyle the tide started to turn for the side.
They have started to play football as opposed to hoofball, and results are rewarding their new manager for that approach.
Bolton are potentially becoming a more attractive proposition for players, and they are started to chase some bigger names. Today we hear that they are supposedly launching an audacious bid to land Bayern Munich midfielder and German Under 21 international Andreas Ottl.
The defensive midfielder joined the Munich youth academy in 1996 when he was just 11, and he progressed well through the clubs reserve team eventually breaking into the first team squad in 2005. During this time he has impressed and even though at times he has just been a bit part player he has always shown commitment and desire to do well, this season he has made 17 appearances in all competitions so far.
It is however the time in the players career that he needs to think about moving on in order to play week in week out. At 26 he will soon be entering the prime of his career and it would be a waste if he spent it as a bit part player.
Bolton are preparing a bid of around £2million and are hoping that it would be enough to beat off competition from Basel and several Italian clubs. I think it would represent a really shrewd piece of business from the Lancashire side. Ottl has a wealth of experience and I am certain he would adapt well to the English Premier League, as in some ways it is similar to the Bundesliga.
The move would also benefit the player, he would still be playing at a high level but a lot more regularly, and there is no reason that he can’t have European football again albeit in the Europa League.
Bolton are a club on the move and the signing of Ottl could really help push them higher up the league table, and they are slowly turning themselves into quite an attractive side, this one gets a bit thumbs up from me!
