Our Tottenham fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see off Chelsea’s late Champions League spot surge and secure a top-four finish for the third season on the trot. Indeed, Spurs need top-flight European football going into their new stadium, many in the bar feel.
Many in the bar felt that Spurs had hit one of the seasons where they had fatigued and needed a reboot, after two full-on campaigns challenging for the Premier League title. Pochettino has worked wonders clawing a possible top-four finish back, from what seemed in the first half of the season a distant target following a poor start to life at their temporary home – Wembley.
A loss to Man United in the FA Cup semi-final highlighted Spurs’ needs to strengthen big in the summer, although this current team is fantastically gelled together, they seem to miss a key element to turn them into trophy winners.
With that being said, our bar staff, working the late shift are all in agreeance over the one area the Argentine needs to work on come summer – if they want to close the gap on Man City…
OUR VERDICT – Back-up striker
In Harry Kane, they have one of the deadliest strikers on the planet, however, after him, they virtually have nothing to fall back on.
Spurs need a striker to both challenge and partner the Englishman if the Lillywhites have ambitions of finally gaining the Premier League trophy. Indeed a harsh lesson would have been taught in that semi-final defeat and one that hopefully Pochettino can learn from for the future inside the new stadium.
