Club legend: Arsenal need to follow Chelsea’s lead and do this or the mediocrity will continue

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern want serious change at the Emirates this summer…

A recent move by billionaire Alisher Usmanov to gain a major share in the club could have provided just that, but with majority share owner Stan Kroenke reportedly turning the move down – it has left the Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern feeling disappointed.

Following this, Ian Wright has spoken to the BBC about the matter, and revealed that new ownership is exactly what Arsenal need. He said: “Stan Kroenke sees it as another asset. If you look at all his other franchises, they are doing the same. They are mediocre, with poor attendances and aren’t achieving anything as a team. That is where Arsenal are at the moment”.

Drawing comparisons to Chelsea, Wright continued: “We need an owner like Abramovich, who wants to win. I would swap Arsenal’s last 10 years for what Chelsea have done”.

In truth, it is very hard to disagree with Wright. Arsenal have been let down financially in recent years, with the club failing to offer Arsene Wenger enough cash to improve his squad to the degree that he has needed. Instead, the club has slowly fallen behind – leading them to exactly where they are today. A mediocre side sat in 5th place.

It is still a recoverable situation, of course, but without a huge cash injection, it is going to be a very slow process for the Gunners.

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are still hoping that something comes from the move from Usmanov.

The Gunners could still seal a fourth place finish this season, provided points are dropped by the sides above them.
