Club prepare £46m deal for Liverpool and Arsenal target

CarvalhoLiverpool and Arsenal fans alike in the Transfer Tavern this afternoon have seen their pints go down with a bitter taste, which is nothing to do with our service, as instead they’re finding this news from the continent hard to swallow.

The Daily Express, citing Italian publication TuttoMercatoWebstate Sporting Lisbon have tabled a new offer for midfielder William Carvalho that is accompanied by a mammoth release clause of £46m.

Portuguese international Carvalho, still just 23, has attracted vast interest in recent years, including that of long-term suitors Arsenal and now Liverpool, with Jurgen Klopp preparing to complete significant business this summer.

However, Sporting’s hopes of tying Carvalho to a new deal may cause some problems for interested parties- although it’s stated that Liverpool themselves will not be put off by the potentially mammoth price-tag.

The Reds are still reeling from missing out on the signature of Shakhtar Donetsk ace Alex Teixeira, who looks set to move to China imminently, and Klopp is keen to ensure he doesn’t miss out on any more top targets.

Our landlord is wary though, as he believes Carvalho will demand Champions League football should he leave Portugal and Liverpool aren’t in a position to offer that chance.

Liverpool fans, would you pay a club-record fee for William Carvalho? Let us know in the comments below!
