Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are breathing a sigh of relief today, after it was suggested they may keep hold of a vital asset after all.
Spanish media outlet Marca quote Real Madrid president Florentino Perez as playing down the chances of David De Gea moving to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer, due to the form of current number 1 Keylor Navas.
The saga of last summer’s window ended up making headlines for the wrong reasons after a blunder saw a deal for De Gea miss the deadline, which meant the Spaniard would not move to Spain and, as a result, Navas would not be moving the other way.
Since then, Costa Rican international Navas has starred for the Champions League winners and Perez hinted that he could keep faith in the South American.
“I am not the one who has to decide. I would say it is very difficult to manage two great players in this position.”
Ultimately the decision will come down to Zinedine Zidane, who achieved great success after taking over from Rafael Benitez midway through the campaign, but our landlord isn’t convinced we’ve heard the last from this story.
