As usual for Mike Ashley, Newcastle haven't as yet made any big signings.

So far Newcastle have brought in four players this summer, two of which were on loan, while the deal for Ki was on a free.

The Magpies had a surprisingly good season last year and finished 10th thanks to the superb management of Rafa Benitez. With little spent last summer, Benitez's squad managed to surpass a relegation fight and finish in the top half. Following that strong season, it would be reasonable to think that the club may invest heavily into the club with the hope of pushing for the European spots but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Today the club announced another deal but unfortunately for the Toon faithful it's not incoming.

As reported by multiple sources, Jack Colback will be joining Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan deal.

The Breakdown

The former Sunderland man spent the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest after falling out of favour at Newcastle United.

The midfielder was informed by Rafa Benitez that he will not be needed which although clears some money off the wage bill, doesn't seem to make sense. The midfielder only has one year left on his current deal and it seems that Newcastle have cut their losses early. However, with his departure, it leaves Newcastle with only four central midfielders. As he has gone out on loan, the club will not receive any transfer fee and therefore, it remains to be seen how this deal will help them in the transfer market.
