Highly rated French defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has been talking up a move to Manchester United or Arsenal The Mail reports.
The versitile £7m rated defenders’ primary position is central defence, however he can play anywhere across the back line and even as a defensive midfield player the article goes on to outline.
He is the captain of French team Montpellier whom are surprising many by leading Ligue 1, sitting three points clear at the top with three games remaining.
It seems the club are going to lose some talent as a result of this success with Yanga-Mbiwa being one of several players thought to be on their way out this summer. The 22 year old’s contract runs out next summer and it is thought Montpellier are likely to allow him to leave for a fee this summer, rather than risk him leaving for free.
Montpellier’s loss will undoubtley be someone else’s gain as £7m seems like a bargain for a player of Yanga-Mbiwa’s calibre and age. He has already attracted strong interest from several Premiership outfits including Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle, The Mail claims.
Such a versitile player would surely be a asset to any of the forementioned clubs. However I believe that Manchester United should really consider him for cover for their ageing back line. With Ferdinand and Evra coming to the end of their careers one would assume the Frenchman could do a job.
One could also suggest that he may be useful to them also as a defensive midfielder offering the back four some protection. Recently their defence has look far from untouchable and maybe this could be an option to sure it up.
Yanga-Mbiwa himself seems to really relish a move to Old Trafford himself. He recently told Canal Plus that playing for United would be a ‘dream’.
‘Playing for Manchester United would give great satisfaction and it would mean a dream could become a reality,’ he said.
‘Arsenal too are a big team.’
Of course any professional player would love to play for Man United or Arsenal. However with his ability to play in so many positions this youngster must be an attractive prospect. And if a couple of big clubs fancy him maybe Montpellier could end up with a bit more than £7m after all.
