Comolli’s £8M Man Will Finally Fill Mascherano’s Boots

Liverpool really need to decide whether Lucas is good enough to fill the boots of fellow South American Javier Mascherano.

They need someone to anchor their midfield, and in flashes the Brazilian has looked capable of doing the job that the Argentinean did.  Well our Italian friends at TuttoMercatoWeb claim the Anfield hierarchy are monitoring Real Madrid forgotten man Fernando Gago.  They claim that it is extremely likely that the side will move for the midfield anchorman this Summer.

Gago began life playing for Boca Juniors and after coming through their youth system he broke into the first team during the 2004-2005 season.  He remained at the South American giants for 3 seasons in total and became an integral part of their team.  Towards the end of his stay at Boca he was linked to both Real Madrid and Barcelona, but it was the team from the Spanish capital that he ended up playing for.

The move cost Real £17million and early on in his career he was extremely successful and lauded as one of the best Argentinean midfielders for a long time.  Now in his 5th season with the side he has slipped down the pecking order, and first team opportunities have been a lot less frequent.  Manager Jose Mourinho is preferring a combination of Xabi Alonso and Sami Khadera in front of the defense.

Gago is a good combative midfield player, he is hard working, has a decent pass on him and can read the game well.  His strength would be a good asset in the Premier League should that be where he ends up

With opportunities limited it is clear that Gago will need to move on in order to play the amount of games he would want too.  It is thought that the player would be available for as little as £8million, and that the club will not stand in the players way as he is deemed surplus to requirements.

He would be a good asset to Liverpool and I think he would adapt to English football well.  Lucas has been a much improved player this season so I suppose it could be argued that they don’t need Gago, but for £8million he could be a tremendous option for Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish to call upon.
