His name is always cropping up in terms of new transfers, and none of us are surprised that his move to Liverpool has resulted in the Merseyside team never leaving the transfer gossip pages, well today is no different.
Over recent weeks we have brought you stories of Comolli moving for various Barcelona stars, firstly there was his interest in Ibrahim Afellay and then there was his move for Bojan Krkic. Well according to Caughtoffside.com it is now winger Jeffren Suarez that has piqued his interest, lets look into this!
Jeffren was born in Venezuela but moved to Spain at one year old (he plays for Spain at under 21 level), he joined the prolific Barcelona youth academy, and at 18 he started playing for the Barcelona B side. He has been a key member of that squad but hasn’t made the step into first team regular.
In his 5 seasons he has managed 28 appearances for the first team, unfortunately for the player, he has slipped behind Pedro and recent signing Afellay. He has only appeared in 7 games this season for the first team and with his contract running out in 18 months his club may be sorely tempted to sell him this Summer.
In a nutshell Jeffren is exactly the player that Liverpool need. Even though it wasn’t demonstrated yesterday, Liverpool need a winger, and with his speed, tricks and tremendous crossing ability the Spaniard could be a real asset, especially when Andy Carroll is fit. It is thought that a deal could be done for around £6million which I think would represent a good piece of business.
The only slight nagging doubt in my mind is Giovani Dos Santos. Remember the fan fare that greeted his signing for Spurs all guided by Comolli, well that worked out well didn’t it! Generally Barcelona get rid of players for a reason, and La Liga is hugely different to the Premier League so Jeffren being a success is by no means a foregone conclusion however I still believe it is a risk worth taking.
Dirk Kuyt proved on Sunday that he has so much to offer upfront with Suarez, he is hard working and will never complain about appearing on the wing, but Kenny Dalglish is crying out for a bit of natural width. Joe Cole and Milan Jovanovic have struggled to make an impact, so Jeffren could be the solution to a lot of the puzzles at Anfield. Should they make a move I am sure they will face lots of competition, but Anfield is an exciting place to be right now. It may not be the Catalan capital, but they both have docks….who could really tell the difference!
