Comolli’s €11M Target Will Be A Real Coup For The Anfield Faithful

Liverpool are going to be exceptionally busy this Summer if you believe just half of the rumours revolving around them lately, the new owners seem happy to spend their way back into the top 4, and their fans deserve it.

The latest name in the frame, or should that be, the latest name to reappear in the frame is Argentinian Ezequiel Lavezzi, who according to his agent has been watched by the Anfield club for over 12 months.

Lavezzi spent most of the early portion of his career playing in his native Argentina, before he moved to Napoli in July 2007 costing the Serie A side €6million.  He has been praised for his performances in Italy, and now in his 4th season it appears that he could finally be on the move.

His agent Jose Alberti has told Italian website TMW:

“Lavezzi has been followed by Liverpool for twelve months and they could make a bid for his services….Napoli must be careful not to lose a player like Lavezzi.”.

It is not just Liverpool that have shown interest in the 25 year old, according to talkSPORT there has also been interest from fellow Serie A side AC Milan.  I think however it has to be considered that his scoring record is not that exceptional, in all competitions he has only managed 35 goals in 131 games for the Italian side, not exactly a scoring sensation!

Lavezzi is still a good player however, and I still think he could do a job for Liverpool, he does chip in with some goals, but he offers so much more than that, think more Dirk Kuyt than Robbie Fowler.

Whether anything comes of this remains to be seen, it could just be a little bit of posturing from the players agent, an attempt to secure more money, or it could be a genuine suggestion that Kenny Dalglish wants to recruit the Argentinian this Summer.

If it is the latter it is clear to see that the Anfield side are ramping up their recruitment for an assault on the top 4 next season, and it looks like they could be a real force to be reckoned with.  Expect to see Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Tottenham scrapping it out for places in the top 4 next season!
