Concern for Conte: Chelsea have one injury worry after FA Cup clash

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were relieved when Pedro managed to steal an extra time winning goal against Leicester City on Sunday. The Blues had been struggling to break down the Foxes, and at one point they looked like they could lose the game – but the 30-year-old Spaniard was the hero for Antonio Conte on the day.

It’s, obviously, a huge win in the context of the season – with the FA Cup now Chelsea’s only realistic chance of securing a trophy this term.

Clearly, then, Sunday night was a time for celebration for the Blues, especially given that they drew Southampton in the next round, but today, that excitement has turned to concern.

Today, Belgian football expert Kristof Terreur has revealed that Thibaut Courtois missed the game through injury – and that same injury looks set to keep him out for his native Belgium against Saudi-Arabia

Though this is far from confirmation that Courtois will miss any more time for Chelsea, it’s still a worry. He’s undoubtedly their first choice goalkeeper, and with Willy Caballero failing to impress against the Foxes, the sooner he is back the better.

The good news for Chelsea now, though, is that they don’t play until April – meaning that there is time for Courtois to get back to fitness. However, the bad news is that their next game is against Tottenham – and that game will be a real six-pointer.

It’s fair to say that the next week or two will be a worrying period for our resident Blues.

Landlord’s Verdict

Thibaut Courtois’ form hasn’t been great in recent weeks, but he’s a crucial player for the Blues.

He has made mistakes lately, but it’s hard for him when the players ahead of him are struggling.

He’ll be needed against Spurs, that much is clear.
