The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for Sergio Aguero to return…
The Argentine has been in sensational form for Man City lately, and whilst Gabriel Jesus has stolen his thunder somewhat, there’s no doubting that he is still one of the club’s most important players.
Unfortunately, though, the Sky Blues may have to do without him for longer than anticipated, with Argentina’s team doctor, via the Daily Mail, revealing that the forward’s injury is worse than first feared. He was, of course, injured in a car accident several days ago.
According to the doctor, a lay-off of six weeks or more is to be expected, with movement still proving very difficult for the star striker. Significantly, as the Daily Mail report, this means that the initial expectation of just 2-4 weeks could be well off the mark, with Man City instead having to deal with a considerably larger problem.
They’re not short of attacking talent, and so Pep Guardiola won’t be too concerned in that respect, but it’s still a big problem for the club. He has contributed massively already this year with 6 Premier League goals.
Significantly, this will mean that the forward misses out on a number of important fixtures. He’s likely to miss key Premier League games against Stoke City and Burnley, whilst he could also miss out on Champions League and Carabao Cup fixtures.
The Sky Blues are set to take on Arsenal on the 5th of November, and now his availability for that is looking in danger, too.
In truth, it’s a huge blow for the club, and Pep Guardiola will have to work hard to remedy it.
Gabriel Jesus has made a good start to life in Manchester, but now’s the time for him to step up.
He is likely to be tasked with succeeding Sergio Aguero when the time comes, and over the next few weeks, he’ll get a test run at doing just that. If he succeeds, this could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the club.
That said, there’s no doubting that they’re a better team with Aguero involved, and so this is a blow whichever way you spin it.
