The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern were relieved when their side managed to beat Wolves on penalties last night. Whilst the Citizens were expected to beat the Championship side comfortably, Pep Guardiola’s men was unable to follow up on the expectation, with the two sides still tied upon the final whistle. Fortunately, a goalkeeping masterclass from Claudio Bravo kept the Citizens’ Carabao Cup hopes alive, leaving the fans in the Transfer Tavern delighted.
However, that happiness has now turned to concern after a recent update from injury expert Ben Dinnery. He’s posted on Twitter following the game to reveal that midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is set to be assessed after he suffered an unspecified issue during the game. He was reportedly unable to take a penalty as a result of the issue, and whilst no further information is provided, it’s definitely a concerning piece of news for the Citizens.

Of course, whenever Gundogan suffers an injury it leads to concern in the pub, with the German suffering with his fitness over the last few years. He’s yet to get a run of games in the Man City first team this season, and whilst he was working steadily towards that end, this could be a pretty major setback for the Citizens.
He has looked good when he has featured lately, and so Pep Guardiola will be hoping for the best.
It was the first time that Ilkay Gundogan has played for such a long period of time in a while, and so there is a chance that this problem simply could have been related to tiredness.
That said, until a test is done and his fitness is fully established, Pep Guardiola will be sweating.
