The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Transfer are looking forward to their side’s clash with FC Basel this evening. The Red Devils have enjoyed a fantastic start to their European campaign, and a good result this evening will see them progress into the next round of the competition. Indeed, just a draw against the Swiss side will be good enough, and so a few of the fans in the pub are viewing this game as a foregone conclusion.
Unsurprisingly, then, attention has turned slightly to the Red Devils’ next Premier League game against Brighton this weekend. With a good result needed, it’s no real surprise that the Man Utd faithful are already hoping for the best. Unfortunately, though, they’ve received a rather significant blow ahead of that game – with Jose Mourinho confirming some bad news.
According to Ben Dinnery on Twitter, Mourinho has revealed that Phil Jones will miss the game through what he describes as a ‘proper injury’.

Jones has, of course, been crucial for Man Utd this season, and so his absence, not just this evening, but for the weekend too, is a massive blow. With the Red Devils lacking options at the back, this is going to require some creative thinking from Mourinho.
Fortunately for Man Utd, the games against both FC Basel and Brighton are very winnable fixtures, with or without Jones. They’ll be the favourites either way, and so it shouldn’t be too much of a problem for the club.
Still, it’s a big blow, and it remains to be seen as to whether Jones will be out for any more time.
