The Southampton fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty optimistic ahead of this weekend’s action. Though they’ve had a mixed start so far, the Saints remain on course for a decent season, and a win against Burnley this weekend could push them considerably further up the table.
Ahead of the game, though, some bad news has filtered into the Transfer Tavern. According to Ben Dinnery on Twitter, midfielder Mario Lemina is an early doubt for the game, with the 24-year-old still yet to shake off an ankle injury.

Lemina has, of course, made a very solid start to life in the English top flight, having featured pretty regularly under Mauricio Pellegrino so far. A central midfielder by trade, his technique and physical qualities have aligned very well with the Premier League.
He’s a fan favourite in the Transfer Tavern, and fans will be hoping that he returns in time for this weekend’s action.
Lemina has enjoyed a stellar start to life in England, and he has quickly become a key player at Southampton.
His absence would undoubtedly make the game far more difficult for the Saints, and so Pellegrino will be hopeful. He has a decent amount of depth from which to choose, though, and so a replacement should be fairly easily sourced.
That said, Burnley have enjoyed a pretty decent start to the season – they’re currently ahead of Southampton in the Premier League – and so it will be a difficult game to win without one of their most important players.
