The punters here at the Transfer Tavern are breathing a huge sigh of relief, with Aston Villa’s managerial saga coming to a close this evening.
In an official announcement on the club website, Remi Garde was announced as the new boss and his deal will see him in charge at Aston Villa until the end of the 2018/19 season, should all go to plan.
Garde, who guided Lyon to the Couple de France and the Trophee des Champions during his three-year tenure, was the clear favourite for the job from the very beginning, widely receiving the backing of chairman Randy Lerner.
At one point, the deal to bring Garde to B6 looked to be in jeopardy due to a dispute over the make-up of his back room staff. However, the 49-year-old, who presumably won’t be able to take charge of his new side this evening, will still be hoping they can get back to winning ways against Tottenham Hotspur.
Instead, Garde’s first official game in charge will be in front of the Villa Park crowd against title favourites Manchester City this Sunday, it looks set to be absolutely electric!
