Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to seeing a friendly face around their club more regularly, after a legend confirmed his imminent return to Merseyside.
Steven Gerrard told BT Sport last night that he will return to training at Melwood next week but it will purely be for fitness purposes, as he looks to keep shape during the MLS close-season.
“I’m going to go in for a couple of weeks and work with Mr Klopp so I’m really looking forward to that, to see what he’s about and try and learn a few things from him.”
The legendary midfielder left Liverpool in the summer to move Stateside and join LA Galaxy midway through their campaign, with Gerrard now looking to maintain his fitness levels ahead of his first full season in America.
His return to Melwood could provide a confidence boost for Jurgen Klopp’s squad, who are high on morale after a 4-1 drubbing of Manchester City, but it’s clear work still needs to be done as they were defeated by Crystal Palace before the last international break.
Liverpool fans at the bar have conceded it’s a shame Gerrard won’t wear the club colours on the field once again but believe it’s the right call.
