The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Jose Mourinho is going to break his youth development duck this season. The Portuguese manager has been hesitant to utilise young players throughout much of his career, with youngsters at the likes of Chelsea and Man Utd all feeling the effects. He has, at the very least, shown a few signs that his methods are changing at Old Trafford, though.
Marcus Rashford has become a fully fledged first-teamer under the Portuguese, whilst a number of other youngsters have also had their chance at Old Trafford. One such player is Scott McTominay, having made his debut last season. He has been steadily developing, and now he has been duly rewarded.
As confirmed on the official Man Utd website, McTominay has signed a new contract through to 2021, with the Red Devils’ brass clearly delighted with his progress. This, of course, comes off the back of his Champions League debut on Wednesday against Benfica.
Whilst he is yet to get an extended run in the first team, McTominay has shown signs of talent during his time within the first team squad. A technical player, McTominay has a lot of quality on the ball, whilst he is also a hard worker, which is something that Jose Mourinho will love.
Take a look at what he can do below…
The Man Utd fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that a few other young players will follow suit by signing long-term deals with the club.
McTominay hasn’t been able to show what he can do in the Premier League yet this season, but he’s sure to get his chance as the campaign progresses.
