Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have seen the saga concerning a superstar signing change dramatically in the past weeks and the latest reports suggest new competition for Louis Van Gaal’s side.
Speaking to The Mirror, Monaco boss Leonardo Jardim confirmed his intention to snatch Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid and subsequently beat United, and Ligue 1 rivals Paris Saint-Germain, to the signature of the Ballon D’Or finalist.
This comes as a major blow to United in particular, after Louis Van Gaal confirmed last month he plans to bring Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, but the emergence of Jardim’s side in the market creates further issues.
Although perhaps a pipe-dream to many, Jardim told The Mirror of his intentions to bring the 30-year-old to the French principality.
“I believe he’ll still carry on playing for a few more years. If he continues in the same league as me, I’ll be delighted but I’d be much happier if he played for the same team as me. The easiest thing would be for him to come to Monaco.”
Whilst Monaco do not have the same global attraction as PSG and United, they have the finances to pull-off a spectacular coup as they have in the past with Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez.
Despite the ambitious plans, our United regulars in the bar still count PSG as their main rivals for the signature of Ronaldo.
