Remember Alvaro Morata? No. He was the Real Madrid youngster Arsenal were following in January. At the time I commented it wasn’t really a solution to Arsenals problems, and it appears they listened as nothing happened with the player (although some rumours say he snubbed the at-the-time unstable Gunners).
Well now Newcastle are looking to swoop for the player, if Italian site TuttoMercatoWeb is to be believed.
Newcastle have sent a scout to take a look at the 11 goal (for Real B) striker. Newcastle may have to accept a loan move for the player though, as Real want to keep the hot prospect and see how he develops.
So why would Newcastle want a 19 year old on loan? After all he they have a pretty good strike-force already, that Morata would be unlikely to supplant. Whilst they wouldn’t be snapping him for the future as it’s only a loan.
But maybe not as bad a deal as it would seem. Firstly, it’s a low cost, low risk deal, for a striker that could prove an able understudy. Secondly, Demba Ba rumours have been consistent for the last 6 months, and despite a long term contract, the Toon won’t feel entirely comfortable they can keep a grasp on the player for much longer.
Morata may not be a long term solution for Ba, but he can certainly allow the club some breathing space in finding a replacement. Thirdly, I’ll admit I’m not all that familiar with Mr. Morata’s work aside from this youtube vid), but after being linked with Arsenal, Sevilla, and now Newcastle, he must be doing something right.
