According to Portugese sports newspaper, O Jogo, the Old Trafford side are watching the striker closely and will continue to do so until the end of the season.
Sadly Hulk otherwise known as Givanildo Vieira de Souza does not turn green when he is angry, he just scores hatfulls of goals and it is that ability that has attracted interested from many top clubs in Europe.
The striker, who received his nickname due to looking like actor Lou Ferrigno who played the comic book hero, grew up in Brazil but struggled to hold down a club at a young age, he randomly ended up plying his trade in Japan and played for a few different clubs mostly outside of the top flight before he attracted the interest of Portugese side Porto. He moved to Europe in time for the 08-09 season for around £5million, and from there he has never really looked back. In his three seasons he has notched up 47 goals, in 115 games as well as creating over 30 goals for his team mates.
The pacey striker is capable of playing on either wing, behind a striker or ideally up front. He is quick, strong, and has a very powerful strike, also noted for his work rate and determination he is widely regarded as a fine prospect. Manchester United have supposedly been running the rule over the player for some time. The forward is contracted to Porto until 2013 and therefore it would take a large sum of money to convince the Portugese giants to sell.
The Old Trafford side have rotated strikers this season well, Wayne Rooney so far has struggled somewhat but in recent weeks there seems to be the suggestion that he may be re-finding his form. Dimitar Berbatov started the season in exceptional form but has suffered somewhat due to the increase in games for Mexican striker Javier Hernandez who has taken to the Premiership like a duck to water. Hulk however would be a good addition, his ability to play on either wing would mean he offers something different to the other United forward players and I am pretty confident that his style of play would be well suited to life in England.
Some United fans may be a bit dubious and question whether they really need another attacking player, opinion seems to suggest that the Old Trafford faithful would prefer a more creative midfield talent, but there is nothing to say that someone to pull the strings won’t be on the cards as well. Should Sir Alex be able to tie up a deal for Hulk I think he could be an excellent signing depending on the price.
Aren’t you impressed I didn’t do one single ‘You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry joke’?
