Console Corner – Selecting the right type of striker in Football Manager 13

FM13.jpgIf, like me, you genuinely believe you could be doing a better job than Arsene Wenger is at Arsenal or perhaps would have spent Manchester City’s vast transfer budget a lot more wisely than Roberto Mancini has, this is your time to shine.

Football Manager can be devilishly addictive when you get a good game going, but one thing that every manager on the game wants is another striker; a goalscorer who you can rely on for 20 goals a season, to finish the majority of chances he is given.

As I hope you are already aware, the different attributes for each player are scored out of 20. But which attributes should you be focusing on if you want a top quality striker?

Quite honestly it depends on how you play…

For example, if you are a top side playing attacking football then you should be looking at ‘Finishing’, ‘Composure’ and ‘Pace’ to get in behind the opposition and poach goals for fun.

If you are a middle of the road team in your division then by all means prioritise the above attributes, but maybe look at ‘Work Rate’, ‘Stamina’ and ‘Long Shots’ too as your forward is likely to have to put in a real shift, particularly against the better sides.

Finally if you are fighting relegation and you want a sole striker, ‘Heading’, ‘Long Shots’, ‘Jumping’ and ‘Off The Ball’ should be your priority as your strikers will often get the ball lumped up towards them and you need them to keep it, hold the ball up and do something with it.

When you find that perfect striker, he could end up doing some magical things for your team, just like in the video below.
