Life is good amongst the Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern after Sam Allardyce’s side managed to knick a point at Anfield, much to the delight of those propping up our bar. While it wasn’t easy to watch, the sight of Wayne Rooney scoring in front of the Kop is always going to make an Evertonian’s Sunday afternoon.
After such a miserable start to the campaign, the Toffees in our Tavern are sweet on Big Sam and are looking forward to what is hopefully a busy January transfer window. Still, while much of the attention on Merseyside will be focused on Everton finally looking to land a centre-forward, reports from yesterday’s Daily Mail transfer centre LIVE (14:53) have proven rather interesting.
They claim Chelsea have not given up on signing Ross Barkley after the England international snubbed a move to Stamford Bridge during the summer. Out of contract at the end of the campaign, he’s understood to remain a target in west London and contact is thought to have been made in regards to a potential January swoop.
Many of our resident Everton fans would love to see him stay, though can’t see it, with Tottenham also linked.
It’ll be interesting to see if anything has changed since the summer for Barkley. If he does end up going to Chelsea, it’s unlikely he’ll get enough game time ahead of the World Cup and Tottenham have previously proven reluctant, despite all the links.
Under Big Sam, Barkley may be able to add some much-needed consistency to his game.
