Conte confirms Chelsea transfer plans after spirited comeback from the Blues

For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, it doesn’t get better than beating Tottenham…

The Lilywhites and the Blues have built up quite the rivalry in recent years, and whilst Chelsea have – more often than not – come out on top, Mauricio Pochettino’s side have certainly given them a run for their money in recent years.

That has never been truer than during the game on Sunday, with Chelsea only beating Tottenham thanks to a near last minute winner from Marcos Alonso.

The win has turned the mood at Stamford Bridge right around, with supporters now feeling very optimistic about the season ahead.

However, despite the win, the problems at Chelsea are still clear, and it’s obvious that Antonio Conte has a lot of work to do. Significantly, though, it appears as though movement is being made behind the scenes.

According to the Express, speaking about Chelsea’s transfer plans, Conte has revealed: “The club is trying its best in the transfer market to improve our squad but I must be happy”.

He continued: “This moment is not easy for us but I am very happy to have this group of players because they showed me great commitment, desire and will to improve after a great season”.

There a few key takeaways from this. Significantly, Conte has noted that Chelsea are in the market for new players, and whilst they haven’t announced anything yet, it appears as though that could be forthcoming.

He also reiterated what fans already know: Chelsea’s current squad is full of talent and hardworking players, and so there is no need to panic yet.

Change is needed, of course, but the Blues are in a good spot right now.

Landlord’s Verdict

It’s clear that Chelsea need to bring in a few players, but their performance against Tottenham proved that all is not lost.

Chelsea showed commitment and passion, and that isn’t something that can be bought. That is built through a regime of trust and faith.

Conte’s mention that his side are working to sign players is key, though, as the Blues do need the depth.
