The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have high hopes for a few of their young players…
The Chelsea academy is infamous for its lack of production, and whilst dozens of talented players have come through the system – very few have actually made it at Chelsea.
This is a tune that appears to be changing under Conte, though, with the likes of Ola Aina and Nathaniel Chalobah both getting a chance under the Italian boss so far this season. Whilst previous managers have been hesitant to utilise young players, Conte appears to have broken that mould.
One player that has featured slightly inconsistently under Ruben Loftus-Cheek, who is arguably the most highly-rated member of Chelsea’s academy. A semi-regular under Mourinho last year, Loftus-Cheek had been expected to feature regularly in the first team this season – but Conte has been reluctant thus far.
That could be about to change, with the Italian boss recently discussing Loftus-Cheek on the official Chelsea website – and he has called for the Englishman to step up his game over the next few weeks…
He said: “I trust all my players. Ruben is a player with great quality”.
Conte continued: “Now I think after Oscar left he could have the right space to show me and the club his potential”.
This is a real show of faith from Antonio Conte, with the Italian seemingly hoping for Ruben Loftus-Cheek to step up and take over the role left behind by Oscar, with the Brazilian leaving the club earlier this month.
The Chelsea fans are hoping that Conte gives Loftus-Cheek a bit more of a chance over the next few weeks, with the English midfielder impressing against Peterborough last weekend.
