Conte keen to seal move for midfielder ahead of career-defining season for the 22-year-old

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for Lewis Baker…

The young midfielder has seriously impressed whilst on loan with Vitesse Arnhem in recent years, and with a return to England expected this summer, many in the pub think that he could get a chance in the Blues’ first team.

However, that doesn’t look likely to be the case, with the Daily Star reporting that Antonio Conte is keen to send the midfielder out on loan to a Premier League side. Interestingly, both Swansea and Bournemouth are mooted as having an interest in the 22-year-old, and so it doesn’t look like he will have a shortage of options.

Baker has spent two years in the Netherlands with Vitesse Arnhem, quickly establishing himself as a force before becoming arguably their most important player over the last 12 months or so.

An expert with both feet, Baker is notoriously difficult to predict going forward, whilst his ability from set pieces is also fantastic.

A natural number 10, it may be difficult for the Englishman to fit into the Chelsea first team at present, so in that sense, a departure might make sense, but Conte should definitely be keeping an eye on him. A decent season on loan in the Premier League could force him into the Italian’s plans, and so Baker must ensure that he is on form all season long.
