Whilst Chelsea’s next game is in the Premier League, the Blues in the Transfer Tavern can’t help but lean one eye towards their next Champions League game…
Europe’s premier competition has played host to some of Chelsea’s most historic moments, and their game next week against Atletico Madrid looks set to be no different.
The Blues and the Spanish side have built up quite the modern rivalry in recent years, having battled against each other when Jose Mourinho was in charge, whilst they’ve also shared a number of key players: Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois to name but a few.
It’s a game that could decide the fate of both sides, with both expecting to finish in top spot in the Champions League group stage. A win for either side would put them in the driving seat, and so it’s poised to be an exciting affair.
Fortunately for Chelsea, Antonio Conte has revealed, via Ben Dinnery on Twitter, that David Luiz looks set to be available for the game – despite suffering a wrist injury against Arsenal last weekend.

This is key for the Blues, as Luiz has really proven himself as a top-level central defender since returning to Stamford Bridge.
Significantly, he’s currently unavailable in the Premier League due to suspension, and so he should be physically fit and ready to face the Spaniards.
It will be a very tough game for Chelsea, but Luiz’s return is a welcome boost.
Prior to his sending off, he was arguably Chelsea’s best player against Arsenal, and he’ll need a similar performance against Atletico in their new stadium.
First up for Chelsea, though, their focus must be on Stoke City on Saturday afternoon.
