Conte reportedly ready to take action after shambolic Chelsea defeat against Crystal Palace

For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, big changes need to be made following on from their defeat against Crystal Palace over the weekend. In the lead-up to their game with Chelsea, Palace had really struggled, but a shockingly poor performance from the Blues allowed them to take advantage, and in the end, they came out as worthy winners against the reigning Premier League champions.

The loss has left Chelsea’s Premier League hopes looking poor, and whilst there is still 30 games left to turn things around, their start to the season has been far from ideal. Fortunately, there was a lot for Antonio Conte to learn about the game, most of it negative, and so ahead of Chelsea’s clash with Roma, our landlord is expecting changes. The repercussions from the game, though, could extend far beyond the next fixture.

According to the Telegraph, Antonio Conte has made the decision to begin preparations for the arrival of a new striker in January, with Michy Batsuayi clearly not up to the standard after disappointing against the Eagles. It is said that the Belgian could then leave the club on loan if Chelsea are able to bring in a replacement.

It’s certainly a wise decision from the Blues, with Batshuayi really struggling to make an impact over the last 18 months or so since moving to Stamford Bridge. With a lack of movement, hold-up play and general quality against Crystal Palace, it’s clearly time for Batshuayi’s future to be considered – as Chelsea simply aren’t good enough with him leading the line.

He has made 2 starts in the Premier League so far this season, alongside 3 substitute appearances.

Landlord’s Verdict

Batshuayi does have talent, but whether that talent extends to playing for one of Europe’s best clubs is less clear.

He has really struggled whenever he has been given a chance in the Premier League, and so perhaps a spell on loan could help improve him.

One thing is for sure, though, his performance against Crystal Palace was just not good enough.
