The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still in somewhat of a daze after shocking reports that they are set to lose out on one of Antonio Conte’s top targets.
BBC Sport broke the news yesterday that, after all here in the bar had expected Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to join the Blues, a fee had been agreed to take the striker to Manchester United.
The news, if true, throws Conte’s summer plans out the window and will have put the powers that be in west London on red alert to move for a plan B.
With that in mind, reports from the London Evening Standard are claiming that the Blues will move for Swansea striker Fernando Llorente, having tried to land a deal for the 6’4″ talisman in January.
The Spaniard, who bagged 15 goals for the Swans last season as Paul Clement guided them to Premier League safety late on, would certainly have to feature as part of a wider plan for Conte, with our landlord still expecting a move for a marquee striker signing despite losing out on Lukaku.
