The Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern love a new signing as much as any punter at the bar, however, if they can land a deal ahead of one of their closest rivals, it doesn’t get much sweeter, especially when it comes to Tottenham.
Over the last nine months or so the two battled for top spot in the Premier League with the Blues coming out on top in Antonio Conte’s first season, as well as claiming a 4-2 FA Cup semi-final win over Mauricio Pochettino’s side along the way.
Now, according to reports from TEAMtalk, the west Londoners have the chance to beat Spurs to a key summer signing as both managers look to bolster their defensive ranks.
The report claims that a bid of £25m will be enough to secure a deal for Middlesbrough defender Ben Gibson, and that both London clubs are interested.
Our landlord reckons that, with Daniel Levy being as financially canny as he is and with a stadium to pay for, Chelsea have the edge in this one and are more likely to stump up the cash, meaning the ball is in Conte’s court.
Blues fans, do you think Conte will make the move for Gibson? Will Spurs get there first? Let us know…
