Chelsea have struggled over the last few weeks, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are preparing for a bumpy ride…
The Blues’ start to the 2017/18 campaign eerily reminds our landlord of the 2015/16 campaign, which saw Chelsea follow up a title-winning campaign with a 10th placed Premier League finish.
A poor start on the opening day against Burnley has left supporters questioning Chelsea’s title credentials for the coming campaign, and with such a thin squad, it is certainly hard to think that the Blues will be in the mix come May.
Antonio Conte, though, is clearly a manager that is fantastic at getting the best out of his squad – but he can only do so much with a limited team. As a result, according to the Daily Star, he is continuing to demand further improvements to his squad – and he could look towards one of 2017’s breakout stars as a result.
David Woods of the Daily Star writes that Conte is keen on Torino forward Andrea Belotti as the Italian looks for more offensive depth. He is said to be rated at £80 million by his current side, meaning that a move will not be easy to secure.
Improvements are clearly needed at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea’s squad looking dangerously thin ahead of what is sure to be a tough campaign.
Offensively, with Diego Costa out of the picture, just Michy Batshuayi and Alvaro Morata are available to Antonio Conte, and so it would make sense to sign a new forward before the summer is out.
Andrea Belotti is certainly a top forward, and he would surely be a hit in the Premier League. He proved last season that he is a natural finisher, evidenced by the 26 league goals he bagged in the last campaign.
However, given his lofty price tag, Conte should think carefully. Both his price and his quality will demand a starting birth, and with Alvaro Morata already in the side, he would have to make a big decision.
Would he make an impact, though? Undoubtedly.
