Manchester City suffered a rare defeat this mid-week, as an away loss in the Champions League knocked them back a step and will have no doubt given some confidence to the onlooking Premier League clubs looking to knock them off their perch at the top.
The Citizens have been in scintillating form though other than that loss, and manager Pep Guardiola will be keen to see his team push on over the winter, starting with this weekend’s Manchester derby.
The January transfer window is usually a time where all eyes are cast on the Etihad to see if City will go out and make a big money signing, however, this time around, it could be that players are going the other way, not necessarily coming in.
One player our landlord here in the Tavern thinks fans might be losing patience with and could be moved on, is captain Vincent Kompany, who despite being a loyal and dependable servant to the club, has begun to drift away from regular starts, while injuries have clearly taken their toll on the defender.
The big Belgian will be hoping to be fighting fit and in form for the World Cup in the summer, and if Pep Guardiola is not going to be playing Kompany on a regular basis, we could well see the big man look to move on, something which could well suit both parties in the long term.
City fans do love Kompany, but it could well be time he was moved on before his legacy suffers any notable damage.
