It’s Thursday and only three days away from one of the most highly anticipated games of the season, the Merseyside derby, the tensions are running high in the Transfer Tavern between blue and red fans.
Debate has raged between rival fans at opposite ends of the bar after a copy of the Liverpool Echo was seen stating that former Everton defender Michael Ball believes that he would not have any member of the current Liverpool team in The Toffees starting line-up.
Ball, who appeared for Everton 139 times between 1996 and 2001, believes that Everton are favourites on current form and there is no a better time to play Brendan Rodgers team. He said:
“If we play at the top of our game then I can’t see this Liverpool side causing us many problems. They are scoring goals but they are leaking a lot and we can take advantage.
“There’s not one Liverpool player I would want in the Everton line-up.”
The 35-year-old former England international earmarked Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho as Liverpool’s danger men, however if Everton can stop these two players then the blue half of Merseyside will be celebrating long into Monday morning.
Ball also stated that even though Everton are fifth in the Premier League it doesn’t automatically guarantee a win for the Blues, as form and league position goes out of the window once the whistle is blown on derby day.
Liverpool fans, what do you make of this? Everton fans is he right? Let us know in the comments below- try not to start a bar fight!
