Following some unsavoury antics and a perceived lack of ambition from Newcastle it seemed almost inevitable that the club would get dropped into the Championship. Fortunately for them they managed to book themselves another term in the top-flight but right now next season isn’t looking like being any easier than the last.
Shockingly just four weeks before the start of the new campaign Newcastle have yet to make any new signings during this summer transfer window. Incoming manager Steve McClaren has asked fans of the North-eastern club for patience promising that acquisitions will be made.
And if reports in the Liverpool Echo that enigmatic but sometimes useless striker Mario Balotelli may be on his way to St James’ Park then not only will their supporters be debating the prospect of this interesting move for weeks to come but the arguments here at the Transfer Tavern are sure to continue. Some of our punters think the move would be genius and others are choking on their pork scratching’s!
The temperamental Italian had a hugely disappointing first season at Anfield and has divided opinion throughout his career, but perhaps a move to a club whose expectations are lower than top-four hopefuls Liverpool may be just what he needs to start putting those goals away.
It should be mentioned that The Daily Star reports that McClaren has distanced himself from the rumour though that has never stopped a player eventually signing on the dotted line. Definitely one transfer story to keep an eye on.
