Could this Champions League winning defender be the ideal partner for Van Dijk at Liverpool?

It’s been a funny old few weeks for Liverpool Football Club, who have found themselves ending the unbeaten run of Manchester City with a scintillating display of attacking football, selling their best player, and splashing the big bucks themselves.

However, all in all for the Reds, things are looking like they are on the up, and our landlord here at the Tavern has been welcoming plenty of Liverpool fans in to the place this week with many in quite the good mood following the weekend’s antics.

As noted, the club have been spending a bit of money, and the big outlay so far for them this term has been defender Virgil Van Dijk, who has joined the club from Southampton for a record £75m fee.

However, our landlord thinks he could do with a solid partner, and he believes that Chelsea outcast David Luiz could be the man to join the Dutchman at Anfield and form a stunning central defensive pairing.

The big Brazilian might have fallen out of favour this season under Antonio Conte, but there is little doubting his pedigree and ability, with Premier League titles, World Cup Finals, and Champions League winners medals all on his CV.

Luiz would be a solid addition for the Reds, and despite a reputation for being somewhat flamboyant, he is still top draw in terms of defenders in the Premier League.

Liverpool and Chelsea fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!
