Coutinho departure unlikely to tempt Klopp into January forward bid – report

Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 win over Merseyside rivals Everton at Anfield on Friday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Toffees off the back of a 13-match unbeaten run in the Premier League, which included the 1-1 draw between the two sides less than a month ago. Yet goals from James Milner and Virgil van Dijk, the latter on his debut for the Reds and just six minutes from time, secured the victory for Klopp’s side, with Gylfi Sigurdsson’s second half leveller not enough to earn Sam Allardyce’s men a replay across the city in a weeks’ time.

Thus, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, yet the departure of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona has soured the mood among our resident Reds fans, who are unlikely to be thrilled by a recent report from Sky Sports as well, which outlines that a move for Thomas Lemar this month is unlikely.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the last few months or so following a summer window in which he almost moved to Arsenal, only for no deal to materialise.

Yet with 14 goals and 17 assists for Monaco last season, helping them to the Ligue 1 title and the semi-finals of the Champions League, the France international is clearly supremely talented even if this term hasn’t quite gone to plan, thus continuing to attract interest from England with Liverpool thought to be interested.

And although Coutinho is on the verge of making his move to Barcelona, recent reports suggest that that deal will have no bearing on the Reds’ move for Lemar, with it reportedly unlikely that the forward will be moving to Anfield this month.

But after seeing a hugely influential figure in Coutinho leave the club this month, our resident Liverpool fans are hoping for some movement on the transfer front in a bid to replace the Brazilian star ahead of the rest of the season.

Landlord’s verdict: The inevitable has finally happened and Philippe Coutinho looks set to move to Barcelona, leaving Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp likely looking at replacements for the influential attacker.

And one man who has been linked with a move to Anfield in recent times is Monaco’s Thomas Lemar, although recent reports are unlikely to delight Reds fans, with a move for the 22-year-old unlikely this month.

This may concern our resident Liverpudlians though given how impressive Coutinho was in his final few months at the club – Klopp will quite simply need to replace the 25-year-old, but it doesn’t appear that it will be Lemar stepping into the Brazilian’s shoes this month.
