Newcastle United will be desperate to ensure consistency from here on in until the end of the season, but Monday’s game against Arsenal certainly won’t be easy.
The Magpies find themselves in thirteenth position at this moment in time with nothing to really play for as they’re seven points above the relegation zone and a European spot is looking extremely unrealistic.
But, a couple of positives to take away from the Magpies’ season up until this point is the development of a number of players, as the likes of Fabian Schar, Paul Dummett and Salomon Rondon have come on leaps and bounds.
And, it appears as if Daily Mail journalist Craig Hope is also an admirer of Dummett’s performances this season as he named him as his pick for the Premier League’s most underrated player.
‘When Dummett plays Newcastle look better and benefit from his assured presence. He is arguably the best defender at the club and, when you consider the likes of Jamaal Lascelles are valued at £20million, it shows you why he is underrated.’
Paul Dummett, who is valued at £3.15 million (by Transfermarkt), has been as solid as a rock down the left-hand side for the Magpies this season and he’s even been deployed at the heart of the defence at times, which hasn’t affected his performances at all. Indeed, he’s developed the attacking side of his game and he never looks flustered in defence, which has helped him thrive in the top-flight.
Although, naming him as the best defender at the club is a massive surprise as Jamal Lascelles has plenty of quality and potential, while Fabian Schar has set St James’ Park alight at times.
