Leicester fans in the Transfer Tavern are perched on the edge of their seat, eager to know the future of Riyad Mahrez after reports the club have rejected a bid from Roma.
The Algerian international has told the 2015-16 Premier League champions he wants to leave and manager Craig Shakespeare has revealed the club have rejected a bid for the player from the Serie A club, according to Sky Sports.
The 26-year-old is currently in Hong Kong on pre-season duty with Leicester competing in the Asia Trophy so remains a Leicester player for now, but his long-term future remains up in the air.
Shakespeare, speaking to Sky Sports, said: “There was a bid from Roma I was told afterwards, so I would like to put the record straight on that one.
“It was politely declined on the basis that it was a low offer. Of what that offer is, don’t ask me how much because I don’t know and I don’t get involved in that.”
After a somewhat disappointing campaign last season which saw Mahrez only bag 6 goals in 36 league games, fans in Tavern will always remember him as a favourite after powering the Foxes to league glory the season before with 17 goals.
However, it does appear to some it is time to move on from that period of time and look towards a future, and if Mahrez is no longer interested, he surely has to go.
Opinions, Leicester fans? Should the club cash in and re-invest the money elsewhere? Let us know!
