Man City are on the verge of a deal to bring the Rubin Kazan left back Cristian Ansaldi to Eastlands for £4 million. The Argentinean defender, 23, has impressed for the Russian side in recent years, helping them to back to back Russian titles as well as an immensely impressive first Champions League campaign.
Roberto Mancini’s side have been struggling in the defensive department this year, with first choice left back Wayne Bridge underperforming and his replacement, the 35-year-old Sylvinho, lacking the pace to compete in the Premier League week in week out and the young South American has been highlighted as a replacement.
Ansaldi began his career in his native Argentina, with Newell’s Old Boys before signing for the Russian outfit in 2008. During his 52 appearances for Rubin, Ansaldi proved that he can compete with the best around, having faced World Player of the Year Lionel Messi in this season’s Champions League campaign as his side emerged from the Nou Camp with a famous 2-1 victory.
The Manchester club had been previously linked to the Argentinean ace and the deal has been reignited due to the arrival of Italian Roberto Mancini. Mancini has made it clear that he wants to sure up the City defence and has already begun looking at replacements for much of his defensive backline.
