Croatia international reportedly on Liverpool’s radar as Klopp eyes midfield reinforcements

Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side end Manchester City’s unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a thrilling 4-3 win at Anfield on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Citizens off the back of a 17-match unbeaten run in all competitions, a streak which has seen them move above both Arsenal and Tottenham firmly into contention for a top four spot. And the Reds solidified their position in the Champions League placings as goals from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah clinched the three points for the Merseyside giants, in turn inflicting a first league defeat of the campaign on Pep Guardiola’s City.

Subsequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to be intrigued and perhaps encouraged by a recent report from Corriere dello Sport (via Sky Sports), which suggests that Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic is on Klopp’s radar ahead of a possible move.

The 25-year-old made the move to the San Siro back in 2015 and has since gone on to play 95 games for the Italian giants, in which time he has bagged 17 goals and laid on 11 assists.

However, the Croatia international has managed just seven starts under Luciano Spalletti in Serie A this time round, and with a World Cup to come in the summer, the midfielder is likely on the lookout for regular football in a bid to not only make the squad, but to indeed make a difference in Russia.

And recent reports suggest that the 25-year-old is on Klopp’s radar as he seeks to bolster his midfield ranks, ranks which have been weakened by the sale of Philippe Coutinho, and could be weakened further by the likely departure of Emre Can, be it this month or in the summer.

But whether the Reds can indeed get a deal done very much remains to be seen.

Landlord’s verdict: Philippe Coutinho’s move to Barcelona has left Liverpool somewhat short in the midfield ranks, to the point that they have reportedly tried to bring forward Naby Keita’s move from Leipzig to this month rather than the summer.

And it appears that manager Jurgen Klopp is also keeping tabs on other alternatives, with reports suggesting that Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic is on his radar ahead of a possible move in the last few weeks of the window.

Lack of first team football has somewhat hindered the 25-year-old this term, who may seek a move away in a bid to get regular minutes ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Liverpool may be able to offer him that, and given Inter are reportedly keen on striker Daniel Sturridge, there’s potential for a deal to be done between the two sides.
