Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger looks set for a £9m swoop for West Ham striker Carlton Cole following a setback in Nicklas Bendtner’s recovery from a groin injury according to The Sun.
Bendtner has missed the last 14 weeks with the injury and with Robin Van Persie already out for the season with a knee injury Arsenal are left with only one fit, established striker in Eduardo.
This is something that is not lost on Wenger who said,
“Bendtner is being treated now and will come back on Friday for tests. If he is out for another two months, we will need to buy someone, absolutely. There is a 50-50 chance we’ll sign somebody. Even if Bendtner is OK we will look around and if we find a good bargain we will still do it.”
Unlike a host of player Wenger has been linked with, Cole is eligible for the Champions League and with West Ham not in the best financial state the right price could see the Irons part with their man.
Cole who is recovering from a knee injury himself has struck 7 times in 15 appearances.
