Crystal Palace could turn to Arsenal’s Carl Jenkinson in their bid to replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka following his move to Manchester United.
The same outlet also reports that Jenkinson is available for £5m, which is only a fraction of the reported £50m Crystal Palace raked in from the Wan-Bissaka sale.
At just £5m, signing Jenkinson may sound tempting. But ultimately, when looking at his stats, it would arguably be the wrong decision to make.
Compared to Wan-Bissaka, the England international would be quite a downgrade. Back in the 2017/18 season at Birmingham City, the last time Jenkinson managed to make more than five appearances in the league, he averaged just 0.6 interceptions per game in the Championship (as per WhoScored).
Wan-Bissaka, on the other hand, managed an impressive 2.4 in the Premier League last season. Out of all of the right-backs in the division to play more than 10 games, no one averaged more than the new Manchester United man.
As well as that, Wan-Bissaka also came out on top against the Premier League’s other regular right-backs when it came to tackles with 3.7 per game, vastly superior to the 1.3 Jenkinson was making during his time at St. Andrew’s.
When you consider all of that, Jenkinson surely does not have what it takes to replace Wan-Bissaka at Selhurst Park. Simply put, the Eagles would probably be better off looking elsewhere.
