Crystal Palace could see Christian Benteke depart in January

Christian Benteke certainly has not been able to do what Crystal Palace would have hoped he would have achieved with them.

The Belgian striker came in for a massive £28.08million fee from Liverpool in August 2016 under Alan Pardew’s reign, per Transfermarkt, however, he has certainly not hit the heights expected.

Benteke has severely struggled during his time in south London and has looked a shadow of the player that he was during his time at Liverpool and Aston Villa.

The 28-year-old has been out with a knee injury this season, however, it appears as though he could end his Selhurst Park nightmare.

According to reports by Milliyet, Besiktas are thought to be interested in Benteke and have made Palace a loan offer ahead of the January transfer window.

It is said that transfer talks will take place about a possible move, with Roy Hodgson likely to try and add firepower to his own squad in the winter.

The Verdict:

Benteke has been far from impressive for Crystal Palace and is widely considered to be an expensive flop.

The Belgium international’s confidence in front of goal appears to have completely disappeared, as he has just netted 18 Premier League goals in his 70 appearances.

The Eagles will be happy if they can offload their injured flop, however, it is likely that they will need to add someone else before a move happens, with the likes of Alexander Sorloth and Jordan Ayew not fairing any better than Benteke.
